SCC-Meeting Minutes-20200809.docx Page: 1 Springfield Crappie Club Meeting Minutes --- August 8th, 2020 The fall meeting was held at the Knights of Columbus Council #4179 on Lake Springfield. President Brian Cuffle called the meeting to order at 1:05 P.M. There were 13 members present. The reading of the minutes from the spring meeting was waived by members because printed copies were made available prior to this meeting. The financial report was given by Treasurer Mike Rockford. He reported the club has $1065 in checking and $3574 in savings. Due to the pandemic, there were no spring fund raisers. The money spent on spring tournament plaques was reported as an unavoidable loss. Treasurer Rockford also detailed the annual fixed cost to own the club trailer. Registration is $118 and insurance is $40. Storage, tires, and maintenance are recurring expenses to keep in mind too. Due to the fuel cost to tow, and the fact we have not been having fish fries at the two-day tournaments, the trailer is not used much anymore. Members were asked to consider selling the trailer and told this will be revisited at the 2021 spring meeting. The SCC extends its sympathies to member Ken Barlow on the loss of his son. We made a $50 donation to Ronald McDonald House is his name. The treasurer’s report was approved. VP Brian Buchanan had no report. Tournament Director Arick Clark was not present at this meeting. There will be 2 spring open tournaments and 2 fall open tournaments again in 2021. After discussion, Rick Montooth made a motion to keep the BASH guaranteed prizes at $1,000, $500, $300, $200. Members approved the motion. The two Sangchris Open’s will guarantee $500 to win. 2 nd -30%, 3rd -20%, 4th -10%. ========================================================================================= The following lakes were selected (either by vote or by rule) for the 2021 spring tournaments: OPEN March 21st (Sunday) Lake Sangchris $50 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish CLUB April 3rd (Saturday) Lake Springfield (Rescheduled - April 4th is Easter) BASH April 24 th (Saturday) Lake Shelbyville $100 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish CLUB May 2nd (Sunday) Lake Jacksonville CLUB May 15 th & 16 th Mark Twain (by rule) OPEN June 6 th (Sunday) Lake Sangchris $50 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish ========================================================================================= The following lakes were selected (either by vote or by rule) for the 2021 fall tournaments: CLUB September 19th (Sunday) Lake Shelbyville (by vote) CLUB October 3 rd (Sunday) Lake Clinton (by vote) CLUB October 16 th & 17 th Lake Shelbyville (by rule) CLASSIC October 31st (Sunday) Lake Springfield OPEN November 6 th (Saturday) Lake Springfield $50 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish OPEN November 28 th (Sunday) Lake Decatur $50 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish ========================================================================================= President Brian Cuffle announced the E-Board had voted to give all paid 2020 sponsors a courtesy 2021 sponsorship. The sponsorships are Springfield Crappie Clubs primary fund raiser, with the SCC-Meeting Minutes-20200809.docx Page: 2 money being used to increase club tournament prizes and payouts (with the exception that a sponsor request otherwise). ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Member Rick Montooth nominated the current E-Board for 2021. Nominated for President, Brian Cuffle; Vice President, Brian Bucannan; Treasurer, Mike Rockford; Secretary, Jim Tintori; and Tournament Director, Arick Clark. All accepted their nominations and were summarily elected for 2021. PANDENMIC INFLUENCED DECISIONS: The E-Board recommended a $500 bonus contribution to the 2020 Classic prize fund this fall. Members approved the contribution. Carlo Catalano recommended dropping the Angler of the Year award for 2020. Members approved this unanimously. The E-Board suggested changing the qualifying requirements for the 2020 SCC Classic. Members passed the following for 2020 only: If a member qualified for the 2019 Classic, the member is an automatic qualifier for 2020. If not an automatic qualifier, a member can qualify for the 2020 SCC Classic by fishing at least one of the fall tournaments. Miscellaneous: Member Steve Mosely reported that 70 structures called Caterpillars have been built to be placed in Lake Sangchris. SCC members have recommended drop sites. Helping with the build were Dale Smith, Jerry Jallas, Carlo Catalano, Mike Patton and Steve’s grandson Kaleb. Members approved giving $50 to the K of C for use of their facility. The meeting adjourned at 2:10 P.M. There was no fish fry due to the pandemic. ======================================================================================= Respectfully Submitted, Jim Tintori SCC Secretary
SCC-Meeting Minutes-20200126 Page: 1 Springfield Crappie Club Meeting Minutes --- January 26, 2020 The spring meeting was held at the Knights of Columbus Council #4179 on Lake Springfield. President Brian Cuffle called the meeting to order at 1:00 P.M. 20 members were present. The 2020 E-Board, President, Brian Cuffle; Vice President, Brian Bucannan; Treasurer, Mike Rockford; Secretary, Jim Tintori; and Tournament Director, Arick Clark were all present. Secretary Jim Tintori distributed printed copies of the minutes from the fall meeting, therefore, reading the minutes was waived by membership. The financial report was given by Treasurer Mike Rockford. He reported the club has $1,884 in checking and $3568 in savings. Mike told members the club had payouts of $5,524 in 2019. The Bash net profit was $460. There were $650 in additional club tournament payouts which included the $100 paid to the day-1 leader of the Shelbyville two-day tournament and the $50 paid to each of the odd/even entries at the club weigh-ins. The treasurer’s report was approved. VP Brian Bucannan had no report. Tournament Director Arick Clark reported the April 5th club tournament at Lake Sangchris had to be rescheduled for March 21st . DNR would not grant permission for our tournament due to the number of tournaments already approved for that date. The 2019 late fall open tournament only had 4 teams, 3 of which were club members. Because of the cold weather and the low turnout that day, the e-board approved a 100% payout. Applications can be found at www.springfieldcrappieclub.com ======================================================================================== The following lakes are approved for the 2020 spring tournaments: Note: The 2020 spring tournaments were cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions CLUB March 21st Lake Sangchris (April 5th was unavailable) OPEN March 22nd (Sunday) Lake Sangchris $50 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish BASH April 25th Lake Shelbyville $100 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish CLUB May 3rd (Sunday) Lake Springfield (by vote) CLUB May 16th & 17th Lake Shelbyville (by rule) OPEN June 7th (Sunday) Lake Sangchris $50 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish ========================================================================================= The following lakes are approved for the 2020 fall tournaments: CLUB September 20th (Sunday) Lake Shelbyville (by vote) CLUB October 4th (Sunday) Lake Sangchris (by vote) CLUB October 17th & 18th Mark Twain (by rule) CLASSIC November 1st (Sunday) Lake Springfield (by rule) OPEN November 7th Lake Springfield $50 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish OPEN November 29th (Sunday) Lake Decatur $50 Entry Fee $10 Big Fish ======================================================================================== 2019 SCC Angler of the Year is Arick Clark. His total weight for the year was 24.33 lbs. Arick chose a plaque over the jacket. The 2019 SCC Big Fish of the Year went to Brandon Wagner. Brandon caught his fish at Lake Sangchris and it weighed 1.9 lbs. He won $100. Congratulations Arick and Brandon! SCC-Meeting Minutes-20200126 Page: 2 President Brian Cuffle explained the morning release and the check-in processes with regards to trailering. Trailering is permitted at Mark Twain and Lake Shelbyville. The tournament director (or appointee) will call out the takeoff numbers from either the launch dock or the area where the morning meeting was held. Those trailering must position themselves to be able to hear the numbers being called and may not leave until their takeoff number has been called. The time and location of the afternoon check-in will be on the tournament application and announced at the morning meeting. It may be the launch dock, the launch parking lot, or the location of the morning meeting. Cuffle also updated members on the status of local business’ signed up as sponsors by e-board and club members. Already, $2,800 in sponsorships has been collected for 2020. The deadline for turning in new sponsorships is March 31st . Time is needed to get the sponsor’s logo on the tournament applications and the banner displayed at the weigh-ins must be produced. New Business: Members approved a $200 donation to Chip Christenson for the “Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance”. Knights of Columbus member John Flesch thanked SCC members for the donation to the K of C’s “Children’s Fishing Derby”. It was much appreciated. President Cuffle suggested the two-day tournament format be dropped and replaced with a one-day tournament. The current Mark Twain/Shelbyville rotation would not change, and the $80 entry fee would not change either. Members made suggestions such as back to back oneday tournaments with the Mark Twain/Shelbyville rotation or back to back one-day tournaments fishing two local lakes such as Lake Springfield and Lake Taylorville. Several members expressed their support of the two-day tournament format. Reasons for wanting to drop the two-day tournament are the expense of travel, costs of lodging and getting home late Sunday. Danny Runkle made a motion to leave the end time of day-one at 2:30 but change the end time of day-two to 1:00. Motion passed 13 to 3. Membership voted unanimously to make Buck O’Connor a lifetime member. Steve Moseley informed members that SCC volunteers built 60 habitat structures and those structures were dropped into Lake Springfield in 10 clusters in 2019. This was coordinated with IDNR and CWLP. Dale Smith has a design to build 60 habitat structures approved by IDNR for Lake Sangchris to be sunk in 2020. Calls for volunteers will be forthcoming. Mike Rockford said he would like to volunteer his time when help is needed transferring crappie from the rearing ponds of Sangchris and Springfield to the main lakes. Members voted to give $50 to the K of C for use of their facility. A fish fry was enjoyed after the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m. ======================================================================================== Respectfully Submitted, Jim Tintori SCC Secretary
